Public Transportation

Panama City Metro. To use the metro in Panama City you need to buy a card and put funds in it. The current rate is US$0.35 cents. The same card can be used for the white city buses called “Metro Bus”.

Buses. Buses are the most widely used means of transportation for the locals. They are affordable, plentiful, and cover all destinations. The bigger buses covering longer distances are usually modern and comfortable. The smaller ones covering shorter distances on the other hand are more along the lines of a cultural experience. The bus driver usually rents the bus from someone and tries to get as many people as possible to cover the cost and make a profit.

Taxis. There are no meters inside the taxis in Panama. Instead, taxis use a formula based on zones and the number of passengers, so it is highly recommended to ask the driver how much before getting in. Taxis are plentiful in the cities, and the fares are reasonably priced.

Uber. Uber is currently available in Panama City.
